Canoeing

Close

For those who wish to get a little more hands on with their paddle sports Ace Adventure offer single and double person inflatable canoes and kayaks for negotiating the rapids of our best loved rivers. Perhaps you would enjoy the independence of controlling your own destiny, or want to progress towards using an enclosed whitewater kayak or hard shell canoe? If so this is for you. Inflatable boats provide stability similar to a raft and the manoeuvrability of a kayak and best of all they wont swamp and sink! We're not saying it's super easy, but with guidance and a watchful eye from our skilful staff you'll find the rewards of negotiating whitewater all by yourself truly incredible.

~Where~

Aviemore - Rivers Spey and Findhorn - The river used is determined on a variety of factors, but most importantly the water level. We make a decision on the day to make sure you get to go on the best section available on the day. Whatever the venue you can be assured of a thrilling day set amongst the beautiful highland moors and forests. If conditions are right you will be privileged to a decent of the middle Findhorn known as the River of beauty with the beast in the form of the dragons tooth and carnage corner!

Aberfeldy - River Tay - The trip begins on placid waters just upstream from Aberfeldy, an ideal environment to master the basics of river running. Several kilometres of flowing water through the beautiful, wide valley of the Tay bring you towards the testing stuff. From the half way point you will have to navigate numerous class II and III rapids, eventually culminating in the longest and most continuous whitewater of the day, Grandtully slalom course. Just make sure you avoid Magnetic Rock!

~When~

The best time of year for Canoes and Kayaks is from Spring through to the end of Autumn. Given that you will get wet often with this activity the winter months are a little on the cold side however in saying that if you are mad enough to do a winter run then we are mad enough to take you!

~Why~

There is nothing more satisfying than mastering a new and exciting activity. Learning the skills to negotiate whitewater in your own craft opens up a world of possibilities. The feeling of independence is incredible. Combined with this, travelling on a natural watercourse is the best way to view wildlife and often the only way you will ever be able to see amazing gorges and appreciate their beauty. Duckies will leave you suitably satisfied and exhausted.

As described by Ratty in the Wind in the Willows, “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

Price Per Person: From £50

High Ropes

Close

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to fly? We can’t quite turn you into a bird but we can let you loose on our High Ropes Course. The biggest and best in Scotland, take part in a range of aerial activities, leaping for distant trapezes, climbing swinging poles or helping your mates scale a giant, slippery ladder. Perfect for families, corporate groups, school groups, stag and hen parties and pretty much anyone who is up for a challenge. Only a short drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh, we guarantee you’ll love it.

This high ropes course is made up of a massive steel structure suspended on four giant wooden poles, 50 feet in height with various challenges suspended underneath. While you climb, you’re safely attached to a rope which is kept tight above you at all times. If you fall off or want to come down, just sit back and let yourself be lowered to the ground. The challenges include;

Balance Beams – Balance your way along 3 poles 10, 25 and 40 feet above the ground.

Traverse Challenge – Make your way up an angled beam, climb up to a precarious tight-rope then climb again to the ring-to-ring traverse, 40 feet up.

Caterpillar Climbs – Race your friend up one of the two 45 feet high dangling poles. The winner is the first to ring the bell or hoot the hooter at the top.

Trapeze Jump – Challenge yourself and your friends to make the longest jump from the top of the wobbly pole for the adjustable trapeze. Beware of the tiny spinning platform on top.

All Aboard – Up to 4 climbers can scale this huge central pole and stand on the small platform on top. The catch? The only holds for this are aluminium pegs that have to be passed up the pole between the climbers as they ascend. Easy enough to do with lots of pegs; much harder with only a few.

Jacobs Ladder – This giant ladder is made up of telegraph pole rungs, widely spaced and suspended on wires making the whole thing rock forwards and backwards. You’ll need the assistance of the other 3 climbers to complete the ascent and get all of you to the top.

Fan Descender – Climb up the platform at the top of the course then simply leap off, dropping vertically before you touch the ground 1 -2 seconds later. This device is what the military use to teach parachuting and is fantastic fun, if a little scary the first time round.

All you need to bring is a comfy pair of shoes that you’ll be able to climb in and outdoor clothing, suitable to the weather conditions on the day.

Min-Age: 10 years (18 if unaccompanied)

Price Per Person: From £35

The course can take groups of 30 people at a time. Minimum number of four people.

Aside form the obvious health benefits Mountain Bike riding in Scotland is a great way to meet the natural local inhabitants and take in the stunning scenery that the Highlands are renowned for.

For families there are relatively flat trails that are suitable for child seats and trailers. For those of average fitness with a passion for adventure some of the single track trails through the Forests are great fun. Serious biker or bike fit and fancy a wilderness experience in the hills and over land then we can steer you in the right direction.
