Bungee Jumping

Close

he UK's highest bungee jump takes place at our new and exciting venue, which is now over water! Jump height 300ft is the highest jump you will find anywhere in the UK. Over 1000 Brave Spicers have taken the challenge of this classic Spice event over the years and almost everyone wanted to do it again straight away! Bungee Jumping has to be the ultimate adrenaline pumping experience! You need to dig deep into your personal reserves of courage, but the instructors are superb in the way they install and build your confidence. Once you have been weighed, kitted up with the bungee rope and harness, pre-jump checks are made and double checked - you seat yourself in the jump cage and are hoisted around 300ft into the air... then its 3, 2, 1... BUNGEE! WOW!

A special disclaimer needs to be signed and the instructors will not let you jump if they have any doubts about your general fitness, so best call us to check if you are in any doubt.

This event takes place at Bray Lake and there is a small café on site, so spectators are welcome to come and enjoy the day.

Dragon Boating

Close

Because nothing beats the atmosphere of when Spice races the dragon!

“No Spicer should miss a Dragon Boat Day. It really sums up what Spice is all about – fun, friendship, excitement & the chance to try an activity that anyone can enjoy!” MEMBER QUOTE

These are great days out - Enter the Dragon! Up to 18 people sitting side by side in a forty foot long boat, with a carved dragon's head and tail attached. A drummer in the prow beating time, a steerer in the stern keeping the boat on course with a giant paddle, the crew, ten each side speeding the boat down the river to the finish line! The atmosphere is brilliant, which is why this is one of the essential events in the Spice calendar!

Today is our first ‘meeting’ of the Spice Dragon Boat Racing season. Today we’ll be racing for fun with other Spice groups from all over the UK. We have our own trophies and medals to go for, and the races will be run on a timed basis over the day. Don't worry if you've never been in a Dragon Boat or anything similar before, as we'll have plenty of time to practice before the racing begins in earnest (and as this is Spice, it’s all just for fun anyway!).

For colour, spectacle and excitement Dragon Boat Racing has it all and is also rapidly becoming the mass participation sport on water. If you want to know what a great day out this is ask any of the members who've attended previous events.

Dragon Boat Racing caters for all ages, male and female, in one crew and requires no experience. It's great fun and totally unlike any other kind of canoeing with team work being the key, not strength. Get the start right and you can feel the boat lift out of the water and start to plane to give you a fast racing start, it's amazing how fast a 18 person canoe can travel! Each boat is provided with an expert helmsman to keep you on the right track, and with the help of your drummer beating out the time of the strokes you are sure to get the rhythm right... well that's the theory anyway!

The venue for this year’s event is the river Avon at Pershore, on the northern edge of the Cotswolds. This is a beautiful setting in one of England's most picturesque areas so you may want to make a weekend of it. Changing facilities are available and there will also be food for sale during the day. Parking is available on site and a transport list with directions will be sent out to all those who book.

No experience is necessary to participate but you must be able to swim at least 50 metres in light clothing.

Cost includes event team, all safety equipment & safety crew spectators free & very welcome (bring the family and picnic hamper!)

Hang Gliding

Close

Here’s your chance to fly with the birds in a specially designed tandem hang glider. The Spice flights are designed to take you to a height of 3000ft (or cloudbase – whichever comes first) towed behind a CAA approved tug microlight, in the company of an experienced BHPA qualified tandem hang gliding instructor.
After an introduction to the equipment and a pre flight briefing, you will be harnessed into the hang glider with your instructor. The microlight will start, and begin towing the glider and it’s occupants into the air. Once the towline is jettisoned you and your instructor will glide free and silent in complete awe of the spectacular views overlooking the beautiful Peak District Park.... an experience only shared with the birds. You may even take the controls and fly the hang glider yourself or enjoy the thrill of limited aerobatics.
This is a completely unique experience, hanging on the outside of an aircraft, head down with nothing but the rush of the wind over the face! .. As one customer said, it’s “rather like flying with Superman”!
The hang glider is equipped with its own undercarriage which eliminates the need for running on take off and landing and is therefore suitable for all abilities. Total flight time is approx. 20-40mins depending upon conditions.

It will also give the rest of us a chance to make any final adjustments to our own bikes, before we head into the forest at around 10.30am. Sailing

Close

EnCompass is renowned for its ability to create enjoyable sailing experiences. Your skipper is an experienced Yachtmaster who is used to ensuring that you get the experience you are looking for. If you are new to sailing you will be amazed at how quickly you are able to ‘learn the ropes’. If you are a more experienced sailor you will find that your skills are acknowledged and then opportunities are created for you to step into tasks that extend you slightly where you need stretching (if that is what you want). We usually manage to cover the whole Solent during the course of the weekend, and there are excellent eating places at all the overnight stops. Cruises start from and return to Gosport.

Whatever the weather – whether the winds have been strong or light; whether it has been foggy or clear; warm or cold; previous crews have had highly enjoyable weekends, with many people returning time and again. The boat is a Dehler 39. She is a cruiser/racer – comfortable, forgiving, and fast.

Cost includes diesel, wet weather gear, life harnesses, breakfasts, lunches and teas. Marina charges are not included and are shared between the group. Nor are evening meals which we take ashore in one or more of the many excellent eateries.

Sky Diving

Close

What is it? It's flying!

Imagine a wind tunnel that can be used for testing the aerodynamics of an F1 racing car, turn it upright, step into the airflow and you are skydiving. It's a proven concept operating in several countries to the benefit of the skydiving community and anyone else who wishes to taste the thrill of freefall in a completely safe environment.

To enter the tunnel, stand in the open doorway and lean forward, you will feel your legs lifted from under you as you assume a horizontal flying position. The instructor will take a loose grip on your flight suit and help you get into a neutral flying position before teaching you the basic moves. Movements including going up and down, forwards, backwards, sideways and turning are all simple and easy to master and you will soon be learning new tricks! To leave the tunnel, simply fly to the second doorway, take a grip on the sides and stand up and you are back in the ante chamber. In goes the next person and you all shuffle up until it’s your turn again. All flyers are required to sign a waiver & there is a weight limit of 18 stone.

Schedule for the day:

Meet the instructor: Once everyone is signed in you'll be met by your instructor who will have many hours of experience in the wind tunnel and teaching new flyers just like you.

Class: We’ll show you a video briefing of what to expect and how it all works. It’s all very simple and very exciting! Following the video the instructor will get you to demonstrate the flying position before you head off to get your flying gear.

Special gear: We supply all the specialist equipment you need: flight suit (that fits over your normal clothes), specialist headgear, goggles, earplugs (we also sell reusable high quality earplugs), knee and elbow pads

Into the Outer Chamber: The bell sounds and the doors to the outer chamber open. As the last group come out, in you file and take a seat. The doors close and the motors start getting the air up to speed in just a few seconds. The instructor steps into the airflow, walking on the steel net floor, and beckons in the first flyer. They come to the doorway and lean in, and almost immediately they are flying! 60 seconds later they are stepping out after their first flight and it’s your turn!

Look mum I’m flying!: The instructor beckons you in and you follow the classroom brief and all of a sudden you are in the rush of air and you’re flying. The instructor has a light grip on your flight suit and helps you position arms and legs for a nice neutral body position. Next you try some small movements and you begin to pick up the idea of what movement makes what changes. After a minute it’s time to exit back into the outer chamber, big grins, high fives and you take a seat. The rest of your group all fly and it’s your turn again for your next flight. You know what to expect and can’t wait to get back in to practice the moves.

Each attendee receives

* Top class body flying instruction
* Equipment hire
* Electronic Flight Certificate
* Access to the tunnel viewing gallery (for family and friends)
* A high quality DVD of their flight
* 6 minutes total tunnel time – enough time for the flyers to express themselves having learned a broad range of freefall skills.

Our overall experience lasts approximately 2.5 – 3 hours

Coasteering

Close

We are really excited to be returning to Ty'n-y-Felin Outdoor Centre having had such fantastic feedback from our August Bank Holiday weekend! With 2 full days of adventure ‘coasteering and sea kayaking’ plus a great location to stay in, a Spice hosted walk on the Monday and a brilliant location in Anglesey this promises to be a fabulous long weekend!

There is also the option of a social only booking on this event which means you get the full social aspect but do not get to do the Coasteering or Sea Kayaking for those who are looking for more of a chill out event or who want to accompany their more adventurous friends.

And with the venue being in the middle of nowhere and exclusive for Spice we can make as much noise as we want and party along in to the night if we so desire in one of several open plan lounge areas or in the conservatory & terraced area!

Ty'n-y-Felin Outdoor Centre at Rhoscolyn, Anglesey stands in 30 acres of farmland with access to the estuary, close to beautiful beaches and the stunning coastline of Anglesey and having recently been refurbished to a high standard makes this a super venue for us. Ty’n-y-Felin has 12 bedrooms sleeping between 5 and 8 people each on well-constructed, comfortable bunks – bedding is supplied, this is not your normal dormitory style accommodation, it is more upmarket than that with each dormitory having its own ensuite bathroom. The resident catering manager will make sure that our stomachs are seen to; we just have to concentrate on adventure & fun aided by your Spice host and a great team of professional instructors!

Proposed itinerary: Arrive from 3pm and meet your Spice host who will introduce to the rest of the Spicer’s on the weekend, then you can relax and socialise. The Friday evening meal is set for 7pm – please do your best to arrive in time as the kitchen will be closing once the group is fed and you will not get fed!

Saturday sees us being picked up and taken to the rugged Anglesey coastline for our full day of coasteering an exciting group activity involving climbing, sliding, swimming, balancing, jumping – be prepared to get wet! The instructors will tailor the activity to meet the group’s needs and every jump/slide/climb is optional so no one gets forced to do anything they are uncomfortable with. The ability to swim is not essential for this activity however it is important that you are comfortable in and around water. Then it is back to the centre for an evening of socialising with a BBQ, maybe a game of rounders in the grounds or just relaxing after a satisfying day of adventure.

Sunday morning and we are off again, this time sea kayaking! The exact venue will depend on the tides and conditions on the day but we will journey along the stunning Anglesey coastline, for example exploring the beautiful hidden coves and bays around Rhoscolyn, or possibly paddling on the world famous Menai Straits. You do not need to be able to swim to partake in the sea kayaking but you do need to be confident around water. We will hopefully be lucky and get to kayak with some of the friendly seals in the area who are renowned for swimming up to the kayaks and nudging you to say hello! After our day of sea kayaking it is back to the centre for our evening meal and then we can relax or maybe take advantage of the Mountain Bikes at the centre and go on a self guided bike ride.

On the Monday we will be running a self guided walk along the fabulous North Wales Coast to take in the breathtaking views and sea air, then having had our packed lunch we can make our way back to the centre and wind our merry way back home after a brilliant weekend of fun and adventure.

Full details will be sent out to those booking; this event will be shared across Spice groups so book early to be sure of a place. The venue does not have a bar, so take your own soft drinks and alcohol with you.

Transport to the activities will be in members own car’s. The coasteering venue is approximately 10 minutes’ drive away from the accommodation and the Sea Kayaking is between 5 & 20 minutes’ drive dependent upon where the best kayaking conditions are on the day. All equipment will be transported by Dringo the activity supplier.

A buzzy resort in a splendid location, St Anton lives up to its reputation as the place for big skiing, soft snow and serious nightlife. Perched up high in the Arlberg region of Austria, St Anton is a delightful mix of old and new architecture with inviting shops lining a pedestrian main street. Magnificent bowls and gullies are guaranteed to get your heart racing whatever the snow conditions.
Although St Anton is best known as a resort for experienced skiers and snowboarders. Intermediates will find plenty of friendly runs across Gampen, Rendl and St Christoph. For a morale boost on perfectly groomed pistes, head over to Lech and Zurs, easily reached by bus. For those wanting adventure, the high speed Telebenne or Galzig lifts take you from the ski resort centre to the magnificent unpisted bowls and gullies. Also to be enjoyed is the long blast down to Stuben where the chairlifts serve a vast area of un-crowded north facing powder fields.

Apres Ski
St Anton comes into its own at night. The party starts early at the infamous Mooserwirt bar. Nestled on the mountain just above the village; it's in a spectacular location. Later, there's an abundance of excellent late night coffee shops, bars, restaurants, discos and live music - sleep will be the last thing on your mind; but if you'd rather relax in the evenings and do something more low key, the resort has a fabulously stylish spa centre with indoor and outdoor pools. Those exhausted from their day on the slopes however may prefer a good meal followed by a quiet drink in the Chalethotel bar.

Chalet Rosanna Ski Accommodation
Our accommodation is the Chalethotel Rosanna which is located in the town centre off the main pedestrianised thoroughfare and only five minutes walk away from the ski schools and the main lifts so if you don't want to miss a moment of the St. Anton lifestyle this is a great place to be!

On the ground floor there's a spacious dining room and comfy lounge with bar. Right next door is Scotty's Bar & Pizzeria with lively apres ski atmosphere. Meals in our restaurant are always hearty and plentiful and the daily menu has plenty of choice. Full English breakfasts make a great start to a day on the slopes, and our delicious tea at the end of the day are well received.

Twin - 2 single beds, some with sofa bed, some take an extra bed. All en-suite.

Ski Hosting
The Mark Warner ski hosts know the resort inside out and will help find the best conditions and shortest lift queues. Hosting is available on 2 days during the week and is not suitable for beginners. The ski hosting facility is on a first come basis and is always very popular with Spice members so it may not be possible to accommodate everyone on everyday.

Spice UK Skiing Ability Scale
To help members with their selection of resort, with the assistance of one of our long standing members we have created the following Ski Ability Scale.
Level 1~3 – While the resort has ski schools and will easily accommodated non-skiers St. Anton is not really a suitable resort for those new to skiing.
